& Pork Soup

Steynsburg pork

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 lb of red beets, cut into 1×1 cubes
  • 1 carrots, cut into 1×1 cubes
  • 1 bunch of cilantro, chopped
  • 1.5 lb pork bones, should already be cut to 3-inch pieces by the butcher
  • 1 lb pork ribs, cut into 2×2 pieces
  • 8 cups of water
  • 1 tbs salt
  • 1 tbs sugar
  • 3-4 large cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp fresh cracked black pepper

STEP 1

Prepare the Pork

Wash the pork pieces thoroughly with cold water and a pinch of salt until the water runs clear. Then, drain the pork.

STEP 2

Flavor the Pork

Sprinkle minced garlic over the pork pieces, ensuring they are evenly coated.

STEP 3

Sear the Pork

Heat a pot over high heat and add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil.

Once hot, add the pork pieces to the pot.

Sear them for 5-7 minutes until the outer edges develop a slight golden color.

Allow the pork bones to stay in place without moving them.

STEP 4

Add Vegetables and Seasoning

Introduce beets and carrots to the pot with the seared pork. Season with salt, sugar, and black pepper according to taste. Then, pour in water to cover the ingredients.

STEP 5

Simmer

Reduce the heat to medium-high and let the soup simmer for 25-30 minutes or until the vegetables become tender.
