Pork

Beef Pork Burger Magic

Steynsburg pork

INGREDIENTS makes 4 patties

  • 300g (10.5 oz) ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio for juiciness)
  • 200g (7 oz) ground pork (adds that savory, slightly sweet flavor)
  • 1 small onion, very finely diced (or grated)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (optional for a smoky kick)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper (freshly ground)
  • ½ cup fresh breadcrumbs (optional for extra tenderness)
  • 1 egg (binds everything together)
  • Olive oil or butter for grilling

For Serving

  • Burger buns (brioche or potato buns are perfect)
  • Fresh lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Pickles or caramelized onions (your call 😋)
  • Cheese slices (cheddar, gouda, or pepper jack)
  • Your favorite sauces — mayo, aioli, BBQ, or a spicy burger sauce

STEP 1

Mix the Patty Base

  • In a large bowl, gently combine the beef, pork, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Tip: Don’t over-mix or your patties will be tough.

STEP 2

Shape the Patties

  • Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and gently form into patties. Make a small dimple in the center of each patty with your thumb — this keeps them from puffing up while cooking.

STEP 3

Chill (Optional but Recommended)

  • Cover and refrigerate the patties for at least 30 minutes. This helps them hold their shape when cooking.

STEP 4

Cook the Burgers

  • Heat a cast-iron skillet, grill pan, or BBQ over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the surface.
  • Cook patties for 3-4 minutes per side for medium, or a bit longer for well-done.
  • Add cheese slices in the last minute and cover to melt.

STEP 5

Toast the buns lightly for extra flavor. Layer with sauce, lettuce, tomato, the juicy burger patty, and your favorite toppings.

STEP 6

Serve & Enjoy

  • Take that first bite and savor the perfect blend of beefy depth and porky tenderness.

Optional Flavor Boosts

  • Add chopped fresh herbs like parsley or thyme for an aromatic touch.
  • Mix in a spoon of grated Parmesan for a subtle umami kick.
  • Top with a fried egg for the ultimate indulgence.
