Pork & Beef Meatballs that is Packed with Flavor and goodness

Steynsburg pork

INGREDIENTS: (Makes ~20 medium meatballs)

  • 300g (10.5 oz) ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio for juiciness)
  • 200g (7 oz) ground pork (adds that rich, slightly sweet flavor)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (fresh or panko for lightness)
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese, finely grated
  • 1 large egg (for binding)
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped (or 1 tsp dried)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, very finely diced or grated
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning (or a mix of oregano, thyme, and basil)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp chili flakes (optional for a little heat)
  • 2 tbsp milk (keeps the meatballs soft and tender)
  • Olive oil for frying or baking

For Serving (optional but recommended)

  • Marinara or tomato sauce
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Extra Parmesan for sprinkling

STEP 1

Mix the Meatball Base

  • In a large bowl, combine beef, pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, parsley, garlic, onion, seasoning, salt, pepper, chili flakes, and milk. Gently mix with your hands — just until combined.
  • Pro tip: Don’t overwork the mixture; it keeps the meatballs tender.

STEP 2

Shape the Meatballs

  • Roll into evenly sized balls — about the size of a golf ball. Place them on a plate or tray.

STEP 3

Cook the Meatballs

Option 1: Pan-Fry (for a nice crust)

  • Heat a skillet with olive oil over medium heat.
  • Brown meatballs on all sides (about 5–7 minutes).
  • Transfer to simmering marinara sauce for another 10 minutes to cook through.

Option 2: Bake (healthier and hands-off)

  • Preheat oven to 200°C / 400°F.
  • Place meatballs on a lined baking tray.
  • Bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through.

STEP 4

Serve & Enjoy

Toss with spaghetti, spoon into a sub roll with melted mozzarella, or serve on toothpicks for appetizers.

STEP 5
